I am a graduating PhD student in philosophy at the University of Michigan, living in NYC. I have previous degrees (BA and BPhil) from the University of Oxford.
My research is in moral psychology, cognitive science, and the philosophy of artificial intelligence. I use empirical research and computational models from cognitive neuroscience and machine learning to tackle philosophical questions about desire, agency, and sentience. More recently, I have been working on developing evaluations for frontier AI models.
I’m a research fellow with the MINT lab. I was recently an AI for Human Reasoning Fellow, where I worked with others from industry and academia to develop applications of AI that are beneficial for human cooperation and epistemics. Me and collaborators also recently received a Cosmos grant for DeliberationBench, an evaluation of LLM influence on people’s political views.
You can find me on my (mostly empty) substack, The Internal World, or on X @PReaulx. Alternatively, you can get in touch with me at pauldfr [at] umich [dot] edu.
